Sizing & Fit

The Scoot XL has 14-inch wheels and a larger frame than the Scoot. Ridgeback has listed around 100–110cm rider height and ages 3–5 for the earlier RB227-series XL, while its newer XL is described for around 95–110cm and ages 3.5–6. These are different model revisions: confirm the selected colour/SKU before treating either as definitive. Use inside-leg fit first: seated, the child should place both feet securely on the ground, hold the bars comfortably and reach the brake lever without stretching.

Delivery & Assembly

North Sports will confirm availability and the delivery estimate for the selected colour before dispatch. Any delivery date depends on current stock, destination and the service available at checkout; a manufacturer's own collection or courier timetable does not automatically apply to an order from North Sports.

A balance bike may require final set-up and safety checks after delivery. An adult or competent bicycle mechanic should check that the handlebars, saddle, wheels and rear brake are correctly secured and adjusted, tyres are inflated as specified and all fasteners are tight before the first ride. If assembly is required or you are unsure about any check, use a qualified bicycle mechanic. Any optional assembly service applies only where specifically offered and confirmed for your order.

Key Benefits
  • 14-inch wheels and a roomier frame suit children moving beyond smaller balance bikes
  • Alloy frame and rigid steel fork provide a practical, confidence-building setup
  • Rear V-brake and reach-adjustable lever encourage controlled stopping skills
  • Adjustable saddle and handlebars support a comfortable growing-rider position
  • No pedals or chain let children concentrate on steering, pushing and gliding

The Ridgeback Scoot XL is a larger balance bike for growing children who need more room than a typical 12-inch learner bike. Its 14-inch wheels and low-access alloy frame help young riders learn to push, steer and glide without pedals, while the steel fork and comfortable contact points suit everyday adventures on parks and maintained paths.

A rear alloy V-brake with a reach-adjustable lever gives children an early introduction to controlled stopping. The saddle and handlebar position can be adjusted as confidence and height increase. The Scoot XL is a pedal-free learning bike, with no chain, mechanical gears or motor. Ridgeback has released several Scoot XL specifications over time, so confirm the selected colour's SKU before relying on a quoted weight or exact size band.

Why We Choose Ridgeback

We choose the Scoot XL as a useful step between a smaller learner bike and a first pedal bike. The roomier 14-inch proportions, manageable frame, proper rear brake and adjustable fit help children keep developing balance and confidence without rushing them towards pedalling before they are ready.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How is the Scoot XL different from the Scoot?

A: The XL uses larger 14-inch wheels and a roomier frame. The standard Scoot has 12-inch wheels for smaller children.

Q: Are there pedals or gears?

A: No. Like the standard Scoot, the XL is foot-propelled and teaches balance, steering and braking without a chain or pedal drivetrain.

Q: Can my child practise braking?

A: Yes. There is a rear V-brake and a reach-adjustable lever so children can learn gradual stopping control.

Q: What rider height should I use?

A: Older XL colours are generally listed for 100–110cm and newer variants for around 95–110cm. Check the exact colour and prioritise an inside-leg fit that allows both feet to reach the floor.
